Hay Fever

Tuesday I got out in the yard and pruned the bushes that needed pruning. When I came in the house, my ears were stopped up and my head felt funny. Later on, I realized that the right side of my head was stopped up. I had walked out into an attack of hay fever! I take a nasal spray for this condition but the fresh air must have over ridden my nasal spray. Today I feel miserable with 1/2 of my head stopped up.

I went to exercise class and enjoyed it and found out that we won't be meeting Friday for the center will be closed.

Last night I tried to get the crock pot of beans into another container. I was successful but when I picked up the crock pot to move it out of the way, I knocked the bowl of beans into the sink! I lost my entire mess of beans! I started another pot early this morning so we'll have something to eat for supper tonight.

Usual Monday

Went to exercise class and then to Karen's for scripture study. I was going to prune today, but took a nap instead! That will be on my list for tomorrow, pruning, that is. I will finally get it done!

All the fruit trees are blooming and the yellow forsythia looks so good! Spring is surely here.

I thought Mary Kate was coming this week, but it's next week, the 1st week in April. It will be fun to see her and the kids. We'll have to go shopping and run around and do things.

The two plants Mary Kate planted in my little garden have come up and may bloom this year. I need to get the weeds out of the space soon. Maybe I'll spray some grass killer on the weeds.

Primary Party

The Primary party was today so I didn't get any pruning done. The party was very good. There were about 20 children there and the activities were fun.It had a camping theme and I helped out on the keyboard playing the camp songs the children knew. It was good that I went.

Got home and finished the laundry. Practiced the piano but didn't get on the bicycle. Looking forward to tomorrow. Sundays are always restful (like I need more rest!) but it's another kind or rest I get on Sundays.

Slept Late

I didn't get in bed 'till 1:00 AM last night, so I went back to bed this morning.

We had a man come give us estimates on what it would take to get the wall out back replaced. It's been 30 years since the blocks were laid and they've just gotten old. The man also gave us an estimate on the price of the new roof. We liked the estimate for the construction work but he was high on the price of the roof. We have another roofing place to contact for another price before we decide.

I went to town only to go to the pharmacy for some medicine. Washed one load of clothes and will wash another tomorrow.

Shortly, I'll be on a diet and hope to loose the 10 lbs I've gained. I'm ready to get back on a normal diet or regular way of eating.

I also need to prune the butterfly bushes I haven't pruned yet and the Crape Myrtles need some chopping. Tomorrow is a new day. Hopefully, I get all the things done I want to.

Trip

We were at the Dr. Walker's office at 9:00 AM for what we thought was a 10 minute lab but we were there longer. Hurry up to wait! After going to the pharmacy, we went home. I had soaked some 15 bean soup last night, and I put them into the crock pot before we left. They were done so Dad had some supper.

I had the opportunity to ride down to the temple with the Deckers. They have become temple workers and they invited me to go with them. We left at 3:15 PM and got back at 11:55 PM. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to get down to Gardendale (I think that's the name of the town). It's so near B'ham that it's called the B'ham Temple. I'm beginning to sound like babble, so I guess I had better close this machine and go to bed!

Outside

I went to exercise class this morning and it was sooo good to be out of the house! After it was over, I went to Walmart for a few things and then home.

After lunch, I got my cloth wheelbarrow out of the shed, and got a couple of rakes and some shears, and started to work on my flower bed. The tire was flat on the wheelbarrow, so I took it around back of the house and tried to find the machine that airs up the tires and couldn't find it. Meanwhile (back at the motel...) Frank comes out to see what our neighbor had stored on what we think is our property. We walk down into the back woods to try and find the property marker. After rooting around back there, we walked through the woods to get back to the house. Since all of the rain, it's pretty boggy in the woods and we had to walk around small streams of water to get back to the house.

While I was waiting for Frank to come out of the house, I raked 2-3 wheelbarrow loads of leaves that had blown up against the house. By the time I got back to my poor flower bed all of my energy was gone! I put up the tools and checked the mail and both of us moaned and groaned about how tired we were! All in all, it was a good day. It's going to rain tomorrow, or so the weatherman says.

No Snow But Still Overcast!

We have certainly been having depression-type days. Mostly overcast, grey days, with no sun.

I washed some sheets and a blanket that had been sitting around downstairs since Mary Kate's last visit. I played the piano while I was waiting. Each day I decided to practice the Hannon finger exercises to get some technique back. It won't take long and will be very beneficial to my fingers and to my playing.

I used my Walkman to play some 60's music while I rode on my bicycle. I waved my arms around to the rhythm of the music and rode 20 minutes without any trouble. I took my small CD player downstairs and will use it to exercise and when I'm working in the basement. Today, the first song was Rock Around The Clock! That was in the music from the 50's. It really makes a difference in my mood when I working with all that wild rhythms going!

Still Overcast

Just for the record, it did snow this morning! The temperature was 38 degrees but big, sloppy flakes came falling to the ground. The black birds were all in the tops of the trees and there was one Robin sitting on the ground, looking one way, then the other, as if to say, what's going on? The snow didn't last long before it turned into rain, but it was a sight on the 22nd of March, 2010.

I went through two stacks of family pictures, putting names and dates on them. I had already gone through one stack for Trudy. Each sibling has a pack of pictures. I couldn't remember all of the names so will have to wait until I get with Trudy for she has my main genealogy book with the rest of the pictures in it. Genealogy is a never ending hobby.

!st Sunday In Spring

Yesterday was all nice and there was some sun to be found. Something bad happened during the night, though. It was overcast and raining this morning! Although I brought an umbrella to church, I left it in the car. I could have used it by the time we went home, but we were parked right outside the door and it would have been too much bother to use it, so I got sprinkled on. Our yard has big puddles in it. They will be gone tomorrow if the rain stops.

We were late getting home because of meetings and after eating lunch, I took a long nap. Sunday naps are sooo good! I wish I could sleep that easily at night. We played with the birds and then Frank went to work on a letter he's writing to his nephew. I have two birthday cards to Frankie and Mary Kate I want him to sign for I want them in the mail tomorrow. And there's one to my brother. His birthday is March 25th and Frankie and M.K.'s is March 24th.

Ha-ha-ha!

In my last post, I mentioned doing some work in my "flour" beds! That should have been flower beds. I don't work with the white stuff much. I really don't have any flower beds. Just a spot that self-seeds when I keep the weeds down. I remember the past when I was interested in the yard and garden, but now I have no interest. I would like to have flower beds that looked good but I don't want to do the work myself. Hum-m-m. Seems like I read somewhere that people would come and cut your grass and plant your beds, etc. I wonder how much that would cost? I'm dreaming, aren't I?!

Almost Gone

After lunch, I went to Walmart for four items and ended up with a basket 1/2 full. I bought some Cascade dishwasher powder. The Walmart brand was leaving a film on the plastic dishes. The "almost gone" was about the week. They are passing by so quickly.

The forsythia bushes are beginning to bloom and the buttercups are in full bloom. I have Iris, but no buttercups. I need to do some pruning but the idea of working in the yard leaves me cold. First, it was the breast cancer and now it's the knees. Maybe I'll try to do some pruning tomorrow. The Butterfly bushes need pruning and the Crepe Myrtle need some shaping up plus I need to clean up my flour bed areas. I'll have to get past my fear of working and hurting to get it done.

V.T. Day

It was a lovely day to go Visiting Teaching. The sun was shinning and the temps were in the high 50's. We had three sisters to visit and we saw two of them. One sister wasn't home and her phone has been cut off so we don't know where she is or how to contact her. I just love it! Ann does the calling and making appointments and I drive and give the lesson.

For some reason I got my Sony Walkman out, put a CD in it but can't remember how to make it work! Darn electronics! A lot of good it does me now that I can't remember how to use it. Frank is rummaging around his room looking for some directions. I could use it when I ride my stationary bike. Maybe it would help me WANT to ride my bike! I have a CD player I can use. Alright! We figured out how to make the Walkman work. Now watch out, Bike, here I come!

Trip Behind Us

Our trip to H'ville was fun. The old Accord has a new back windshield and it is so clear that it looks like there's no glass at all! On the way home, we stopped at Dairy Queen in Madison and had a small Blizzard. Yum, yum!! We went by the pharmacy and got the Rx and then came home.

It was a mild, cloudy day with temps in the 50's. The old Accord drives great for a 20 year old car. I hope it keeps on keeping on. It's got 237,700, plus or minus a few hundred, miles on it and so far everything still works on it-air conditioner, windows, cruse control. I, or course, like driving the '06 Accord better.

This weekend the Congress will try pass a health bill that will change our country for ever! The government is exercising more and more control over our lives.

Weevils

Trudy wanted me to call the Co-Op and find out how to get rid on weevils. Before I did that, I looked on the internet and found lots of articles about weevils and how to deal with them. I think I will get rid of cereal products that have been open a long time. I don't want to have to deal with weevils!

Played with Gert today and we changed the bed. Actually, he was hiding under my craft desk sitting on the seat of the chair. Since Spring is coming, Gert likes to regurgitate on my hand! He thinks he is feeding his mate. I have to watch him so I don't get a clump of wet food on my hand!

Dad is having a bad day today. Tomorrow will be a good day and we have a Dr.'s appointment in H'ville. Thursday, I'll be going V.T. and the week will almost be over.

Trudy and Sadie Over!

Trudy and Sadie came last night and spent the night and then we spent most of the day going over genealogy. Trudy is very interested in learning and doing. We found out much work has been done on ancestors that I didn't have much information on. It was a really neat feeling finding this information. Sadie helped Grampie make up some capsules and hopefully had fun helping.

It was in the high 40's today and cloudy. Spring is coming no matter what the clouds say!

The Last Day

Finally, it's the last day of this week which has been gloomy for me. I've stayed home for Frank all week and I've gotten cabin fever. He hasn't needed any extra care, I just didn't have any place to go.

I got a new shell for my purse. It's black with white letters on it and a small pink ribbon for breast cancer. I like it.

The Stake Presidency, or one of them, will be coming here to give Frank his temple recommend interview tomorrow. Since he can't get to church, the church comes to him! Tomorrow is Ward Conference and should be a good day.

Anytime it dries up enough, the contractors will begin work on our church building to enlarge it and we will have to drive to Madison to go to church. Our meetings will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will end at 3:00 p.m. We'll allow an hour to get there. It'll be a new experience meeting with another Ward in the same building. Something to look forward to.

No Day

I need to make a list of what I want to accomplish each day. Then maybe I would accomplish some thing. I think I'll go out of the house tomorrow because I've stayed home all week. Frank is still feeling weak but he seldom gets a chance to exercise so his weakness won't go away for a while.

Trudy and Mary Kate and families will be going to see Heather this week-end. They'll see if Frankie can drive down. It should be a happy week-end.

Man On the Roof

This is the second man who has been on our roof today. We're in the market for a new roof and we're getting estimates. It's creepy to hear footsteps above when you're in a room of the house.

I have clean clothes in the dryer that have been there for days. They're good and wrinkled now and I trying to ignore them the best I can. I'm doing a pretty good job so far.

It's another warm day with some rain showers. I picked some tiny, purple flowers that are about 1" tall and put them in a vase and set it on the window sill. Speaks of spring. Yeah!

Lab Appointment

I got up early to go to exercise class but it was canceled because of the Poke Sallet Revival that raises money for CASA or some organization like that. So, at 8:15 in the morning I went to Walmart to shop. I went by my list but most of the stuff I got was cereals! Then, I went to Staples to get some accordion folders for this years bills.

After I got home and unloaded the car, it was time to drive to H'ville to get a lab done. I was a week late in getting it, so I hope that won't make any difference. It was to check my vitamin D level in my blood. I take vitamin D with my other pills but it still might be too low.

I felt really good doing everything. My knees are just marvelous! I can walk and walk without any pain. It's just so wonderful.

I haven't make any cards lately. Maybe tomorrow. I have nothing on the calendar. A man is coming to measure the roof, if it doesn't rain. We need a new roof. Trudy and George are getting a new metal roof. We'll just get the regular roof. It costs less.

Sunday

I got to sleep until 7:45 A.M. since I was driving. I can be ready in an hour and getting up too early is a waste of time. It was good driving the new Accord after driving the old Accord all last week while Frank was in the hospital. I'm thankful the old Honda still runs and so far runs pretty good. If, when, it goes we'll have to get another car to be the Doctor car. Frank has a hard board that is covered with soft material that he lies on. The back of the passenger seat is removed so the board rests on the front seat and he can lie down on it. He can't sit up and ride.

It was 66 degrees today! I still wore a light jacket to church. But it seems to be getting warmer each day. March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb!

Saturday, March 6, 2010

Another Day

Spent most of the day being lazy. Frank rested and was up a while in the afternoon. Bro. Decker stopped by this afternoon to check on Frank. He had a big, round roll of hay in back of his pick-up. It's food for his miniature horses and goats. He's having problems with rats getting into things in his storage place. He can't poison them because the cats might eat a rat and then get poisoned too. They will chew through anything. I'm glad I don't have that problem!

Karen is not feeling good so won't be at church tomorrow. One of her counselor's will take over for her duties in Primary. I'll be driving to church tomorrow. It's supposed to be in the 50's-60's tomorrow and should be a great day! It snowed the 1st day of March but didn't stick. Maybe we are through with snow.

Frankie called to check on Dad and we talked for a while. It was a nice call.

Friday, March 5, 2010

Home At Last

I got Frank home around 3:30 P.M. He stood up and made up his vitamins and now has gone to lay down. It was 5 days of going to the hospital to sit around and wait. I'm glad it's over and so is Frank.

I didn't do much today but really enjoyed staying home. The birds enjoyed having someone around all of the time. I recorded the bills in the bill book and I guess we will pay them later on this evening. I'll be learning something.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Another Day?

Because it was time for Frank to run a fever because of the prednesone, the Dr. keep him in another day. Friday will be a good day for him but Saturday might be another fever day. Frank will tell Dr. Rayburn tomorrow to let him go home. I'll stay home until Frank calls and then I'll go to the hospital to pick him up.

I was at Kari's Place For Hair at 9:00 A.M.I thought I would be there early enough to get a hair cut from Kari, but she had a color so a stylist named Shelly cut my hair. She did a good job and I like it.

I got to the hospital at 10:00 and Frank was asleep, so I sat and watched T.V., all day. I took Karen a newspaper but she was asleep so I just left it on her bed. Bro. Decker found it and enjoyed reading it. It will be so good when Frank gets home.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

One More Day

The Dr. said that Frank could come home tomorrow. I think I will be at Kari's place and get my hair trimmed before I go to the hospital. I've been wanting to have it done since Monday, but I stayed at the hospital too long.

Karen lost her gall bladder today, but seemed not to be in a lot of pain when I saw her. She will come home Friday. Bro. Decker stopped by to see Frank a couple of times today. It's unusual for Frank and Karen to be in the same hospital at the same time.

I came home and finished doing the laundry I started this morning. I entertained the birds and each one got a dose of TLC. Now, I'm waiting to watch the O'Rielly show.

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

No More Appendix

Frank was gone 2 hours today. Don't know how much of that time was operating time, but that was the time I sat waiting. I sat in his room while he slept. Come to find out that my friend Karen was in the hospital on the same floor. She was having gall bladder problems and will be operated on tomorrow. She came in today.

Frankie called to see how things were going. He told me about his studies in working on his PhD. He's enjoying his work and is finding a way to inject humor into his papers. Mary Kate called while I was at the hospital.

Trudy is facing the fact that George's parents will probably come and live with them. They are unable to stay by themselves. They will have to build an apartment in their 2 car garage.

Monday, March 1, 2010

Operation Set

We went to the hospital at 8:00 a.m. to get the CT scan for Frank. Afterwards, we came home. The phone rings, and the Dr's office calls and says to get to the emergency room soon. Then the Dr called again, and said to come by the office first! Dr. Walker read the scan from this morning and said Frank's appendix had to come out. They called the hospital and then we went over there.

The surgeon, Dr. Rayburn, came by and said the appendix was chronic and not acute, so he could wait until tomorrow to operate. I came home by 4:00 p.m. and took care of the birds. They were glad to see one of their flock. I tried to give each one a little one on one time but Rosco missed out. I made up with it by giving them lots of nuts-just tiny pieces.
