It's Been A While

It's been about 2 weeks since I've blogged. In the evening, I'm usually too tired to sit down and write. I'm doing better. I still have to have pain meds every 4 hours. I'm putting a lot of weight on my right leg and it doesn't hurt most of the time. I usually don't get dressed but wear one of my muumuus. The day the men were here to build the ramp, Saturday, I got dressed. It took them about 4 hours to build it and it is really a nice ramp. It will come in handy for both Frank and me.

Trudy will be coming here twice a week and spending the night. Monday-Tuesday and Thursday and Friday. That will give her enough time to be with her family and help us out out too. I'm not ready to cook yet. I was going to try to make Taco soup today but Mary Kate reminded me that I had to get the cans of things out and open them up and I'm not physically ready to do that just yet. The food the Relief Society brought really helped out. We are still eating the left overs from them.

We've had really warm weather lately and last night there were storms but they passed us by. Some Southern states had tornado damage but we were spared.

Snow Night

Mary Kate was to be home by 9 PM but they got stuck on Hy 65 in the snow. After spending several hours of going nowhere, they got off the interstate at Cullman. She called Trudy and Trudy had a friend that Mary Kate called and told her how to get to Hy 31 which led on to Athens. It took her and Nate 10 hours to drive a 4 hour trip. It's 12:30 PM and she'll still crashed out downstairs. It took a lot of emotional drain out of her.

Monday I get my staples out, all 157 of them. I'm anxious to see if I hurt anything when I fell and what the future holds for my healing. Life's not too bad when the pain pill is working but I still need it every four hours.

Hit the wrong key...

The second operation went well. I had a bad night of pain afterwards. They were trying to work up to the optimum dose of morphine and I had to go for long periods of time hurting until "they" would give me enough to rest. At AM, a nurse came in and said I had to sit in a chair for 30 minutes and 3 hours later, a PT finally got me back in bed. I called the nursing station but they wouldn't send anyone to help me.

I got better as the second day went by. Frankie, Kayla and Mariam cane to visit Friday. Susan Harris and April came to visit Friday, also. The Dr said I could go home Saturday.

I fell Saturday evening after getting the wheels of the walker caught up with the wheels of the commode and the end of the bedspread. I fell on my good side, the left side and lay on the floor hollering for Frank. I ran and got Trudy and they got me up. The next day I think I got my walker wheel caught up in the rug and fell again. Again on the good side. This time I jarred the leg quite a bit. It's stiff but doesn't hurt more than what I think it should hurt. Dad and Trudy had to prick me up again. I'm trying to be careful but something isn't working. I've got to get this leg healed this time without any more problems. It's a real blessing that Trudy us here with us. Mary Kate will come January 27th. She will be able to take me to the Dr to get the 157 staples out.

Next operation

I'm scheduled this Thursday to have a repeat hip operation. My femur broke and the Dr has to go in and put plates and coils and screws and duct tape in to stabilize the bone. This operation will be worse than the first one because he has to cut more thigh muscle. It's been about a month since I had the first operation and I'm just now feeling human. Now, I'll have to go through it all over again and I'm not looking forward to it. It was painful and I'm past that first pain now. At least I know how to use my walker really good.

Trudy has been a jewel about coming over and spending the night every night and helping out. She went to the Dr with Frank today and was a big help. Mary Kate was here last week for 5 days. Frankie is coming down for the operation again. It will be good to see him.

CASA is building a ramp for me. It will be good not to have to have to walk up and down the steps to the house. It will be good for Frank, too. Walking is getting hard for him to do. I still have to conquer the steps down to the basement, all 13 of them!
